Stump grinding prices depend on the stump diameter, tree species, location, access, and how many stumps you have. Corner lots, fences, or tight backyards can take more time. We provide free, no obligation estimates after seeing the stump in person so you know the exact cost before we start.

For most residential projects we grind the stump about 4 to 6 inches below the surrounding soil level. That is deep enough for topsoil and new grass in most yards. If you plan to pour concrete, build a patio, or install another structure, let us know and we can discuss deeper grinding where practical.

Standard stump grinding focuses on the main stump and surface roots, which is sufficient for most lawns. In some cases we can chase larger lateral roots that are visible at the surface or interfering with sidewalks, driveways, or fences. Full root removal is more invasive and is usually only needed for construction projects. We will review options during your estimate.

We work hard to protect your lawn and landscaping. Our team uses protective mats when needed, and our equipment is designed for residential yards. Stump grinding does create wood chips and a small depression where the stump was. We clean up the area and can spread chips or haul them away, leaving the space ready for new topsoil and seed.

Stump grinding turns the stump into mulch like wood chips. You can keep the chips for landscaping, have us spread them to level the area, or request that we haul them away for an additional fee. We will discuss your preference before starting the job.

In many cases you can regrade the area with topsoil and reseed grass shortly after grinding. If you want to plant another tree in the same spot, we may recommend shifting the location slightly so the new tree has fresh soil and space for healthy roots.
